Tesco starts selling British tilapia

British tilapia is now being sold in leading U.K. supermarket chain Tesco. The Fish Co. is producing the fish on four fish farms across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire in northern England.

Although tilapia is increasingly popular with U.K. consumers, this is the first time fresh, homegrown tilapia has been made available in the country.

The deadline for the third round of European Fisheries EFF aquaculture capital funding (to be confirmed) is expected in early May.

First successful EFF grants announced (www.fishupdate.com). Scottish sector will benefit from an additional £5.8 million.

The deadline for the second round of European Fisheries EFF aquaculture capital funding is pending confirmation – but anticipated sometime around mid April. Successful candidates to be notified within four weeks (the first successful candidates were notified in December 2008)
